BALD EAGLE PRESENTATION TO SOME 8 AND 9 YEAR OLDS

I had the privilege a couple days ago to address 36 children at Montvale Campground here in East Tennessee about Bald Eagles.  The wildlife agency I work for promotes wildlife education for the public starting with school-age children.   I asked the prestigious eagle restoration agency, American Eagle Foundation (AEF) if they could bring a bald eagle to the presentation and to my delight they did.  Needless to say, the children were surprised and in awe of that gorgeous male Bald Eagle.  The eagle's name is Mr. Lincoln and he was impressive.  I want to thank AEF once again for their efforts to make the eagle presentation so successful.  Their presentation will be remembered by these children for the rest of their lives and will be handed down to their children someday.  Thank you, Karen Wilbur (Assistant Avian Coordinator) and Spencer Williams (Avian Coordinator) for your most gracious efforts to make this presentation a memorable occasion for the kids.  What follows are some photos of the event.  Hope you enjoy.
MEET MR. LINCOLN

Montvale Campground is a beautiful place where children can enjoy wholesome activities and learn to be productive and decent members of society.

I drove in at around daybreak and the lane that lead up to the main gate of the property was quiet and serene.

Below:  Karen Wilbur from American Eagle Foundation (AEF) is explaining some eagle technology to the youngsters.
Below:  Spencer opens the container that Mr. Lincoln is safely resting in.
And finally - behold the king of the skys

Mr. Lincoln is spectacular!  He is an amazing adult Bald Eagle.

 What a magnificent creature!

Mr. Lincoln truly is a fine representative of the United States Of America.  He is powerful, he is regal, he is brave, soars high and can be fierce.  None will test him as he creates peace through power.

These talons are powered by 2000 lbs per sq inch of power and could crush Spencer's wrist.  These two have bonded and the big eagle takes care not to be harsh with Spencer, his friend.  The talons have the ability to puncture through the leather protective arm sleeve and drive on through the wrist or arm.  Only the bonding process between the eagle and handler prevent these events from happening.

Good heavens, he is magnificent!

The children continually ask Karen questions.  They are curious and curiosity causes learning.  Without curiosity, learning will not occur no matter what the topic or subject.

Look at those faces.  They are now informed about the most impressive ambassador these United States have.   The Bald Eagle signifies freedom, justice and flies over the home of the brave
